Moles are small blemishes on the skin, which start forming during childhood. All of us have moles somewhere or the other on the body, and by the time we reach adulthood, we have between 10-40 moles. Some moles may be flat, while some may be raised. Although they are harmless, you can choose to get them removed in case they affect your appearance, or cause trouble due to rubbing against clothes. It is also recommended that you get a mole diagnosed, if not removed, to check if the growth is cancerous or not.
Excisions are the most common mole removal procedures. Your dermatologist will recommend a surgical excision or a shave excision, depending upon the size and other properties of your mole. In a surgical excision, the dermatologist uses a scalpel to remove the mole, after applying anaesthetic on the area.
In a shave excision, instead of cutting the mole, it is shaved using a single or double-bladed razor. This works on moles that are not very deep.
