Chances are you might have just gotten rid of acne, which has left a scar behind. Probably you even tried a few home remedies to get rid of it, and maybe even tried some over-the-counter creams. But, the scar is still there. And, it is visible. Maybe you are slowly even getting used to it. However, with the number of treatment options available now, you don’t have to! From dermabrasion to tissue fillers, laser resurfacing to needling, there are plenty of options, from which a dermatologist can recommend you one.
While there are a lot of acne-treatment options available in the market these days, we will focus on some of the most common ones in this blog. Let’s start with the non-invasive treatments – laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, chemical peel treatment and skin needling. All these procedures work at removing the outer, damaged layer of the skin, and aid the formation of collagen to heal the skin, hence resulting in healthier, glowing skin. In dermabrasion, damaged skin is removed using a device which has a brush, which rotates rapidly, providing the effect of scrubbing or scraping. In a laser treatment, beams of laser energy are used to target the skin’s thinner outer layer to remove it, and then the inner layers are targetted for better production of collagen. In a chemical peel treatment, the top layer is removed by applying a chemical to the skin. In skin needling, the dermatologist rolls a device with multiple needles over the skin, which lead to the removal of the damaged outer layer.
There are other procedures, like soft tissue filler, steroid injection and surgery, which are not non-invasive in nature, and are used to treat bigger scars.
